The Two Big Differences

The two big differences between blind and low vision people

Blind person

  • Total or partial loss of vision
  • Has the perception of light but not of shapes
  • Does not live in the dark

Low vision person

  • Has residual vision
  • Many different ways of seeing

There are many variables depending on the condition:

  • those who do not see in the centre
  • those who do not have peripheral vision (the ability to see at points you are not looking at directly)
  • those who have blurry vision but have not lost any part of the visual field
  • those who do not perceive colours or depth
