Introduction and Learning Objectives
Harmony in Motion is a dance programme for individuals with visual impairments. Dance is a universal language of the body and emotions, fully accessible to people who are blind or have low vision. This module presents the principles, goals and pedagogical approaches for teaching dance to individuals with visual impairments.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this module, learners will be able to:
- Understand visual impairment — differentiate low vision and blindness; recognise key factors like visual acuity, field and contrast.
- Promote autonomy and assistive tools — apply sensory, mobility and daily-life strategies; identify tools such as the white cane, guide dog, Braille and digital technology.
- Practise respectful communication — use inclusive language, descriptive guidance, and respect personal space and preferences.
- Apply dance principles — ensure safety, adapt movements to individual needs and support creative expression.
- Foster inclusion and empowerment — recognise each dancer’s unique perception and encourage participation and personal growth.
