Braille

Braille is a tactile reading and writing system that uses unique combinations of six raised dots. It allows people who are blind or have low vision to access the same information as print readers.

  • Universal system: everything written in print — letters, numbers, punctuation, accents and special symbols — can also be written in Braille.
  • Writing tools: Braille can be produced with a slate and stylus, a Braille typewriter, or digital devices.
  • Reading methods: it can be read on embossed paper or through electronic Braille displays.
  • Accessibility: Braille enables independence in education, communication and daily life.
