Introduction and Learning Objectives

Young people with visual impairments are not only recipients of support — they are active members of their communities with ideas, skills and experiences to share.

This module explores how youth workers, educators and community facilitators can create inclusive, youth-led initiatives that support:

  • personal development
  • confidence and autonomy
  • social participation
  • leadership skills
  • community belonging

Youth-led approaches move away from traditional models where adults make decisions on behalf of young people. Instead, they encourage young people with visual impairments to participate in planning, decision-making and creating activities that respond to their own interests and needs.
